During the doctorate and opening of examination procedure

Many other topics and steps that arise after the start of the doctorate or enrolment in the doctoral programme are also handled with the help of the doctoral candidate management system HISinOne-DOC integrated in StudiLöwe, in particular the "Application for opening of the examination procedure", which every doctoral candidate must submit before successfully completing the doctorate.

Please note: This information only applies to you if you have enrolled in PhD studies for the first time in or after the summer semester 2026 (with the exception of the information on enrolment renewal, which applies to all doctoral candidates).

Enrolment renewal

Up to and including the eighth semester of the PhD studies, enorlment renewal takes place by paying the semester fee on time.

In exceptional cases, the enrolment period can be extended by up to four semesters after the eighth semester. For this purpose, written proof of the supervisor's need for further enrolment must be submitted to the student admission and registration by the end of the corresponding re-registration period at the latest .

Enrolment as a doctoral candidate beyond this period of 12 semesters has so far required the submission of a written statement from the responsible examination board for each enrolment renewal. This must also be submitted to the student admission and registration by the end of the corresponding enrolment renewal period at the latest.

Change notifications

  • Changes to your name,
  • Changes to your registered gender before an official change,
  • Changes to your registered gender after an official change (based on the Self-Determination Act)
