Center for Graduate Studies

Advisory service

If you have general questions about doctoral studies in Wuppertal or are looking for specific information that you cannot find (immediately) on our website, please contact the CGS office team at zgs[at]uni-wuppertal.de.

Information, decision-making aids and support for questions about doctoral studies can also be found in a number of doctoral study guides. We have compiled a list of the most helpful publications for you at this link.

You also have the option of contacting the CGS manager, Dr Julian Hanebeck, directly for personal advice. Depending on your request, there are three possible formats for this:

Open consultation hours

Open consultation hours are ideal for any matters that you would prefer to discuss briefly in person rather than in numerous emails, but which do not require a long and intensive conversation. Please call Mr Hanebeck if, for example, you would like information about the first steps towards a doctorate at the University of Wuppertal, have questions about the services offered by the CGS, or would like to find out what services and support options are available at the University of Wuppertal.

Time: Tuesday & Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or by appointment

Individual counselling

Individual counselling offers space for personal consultations lasting approximately 30 to 60 minutes on a wide variety of topics for which you would like to receive specific advice, information or expert tips. Frequent topics in this context include, for example, finding funding and scholarship advice, preparing for selection interviews, time and project management methods, further qualification (with regard to career goals) and networking opportunities.

Systemic coaching

Within the framework of coaching, doctoral students at the University of Wuppertal can address topics and problems that go beyond counselling. The sessions offer an opportunity to reflect on development opportunities and change processes, as well as to identify personal goals, develop strategies for achieving them and plan concrete steps in conversation. Coaching can also be particularly helpful in situations including a conflict. In the coaching dialogue, the current situation can be analysed together and options for action and solution strategies developed.

To arrange an appointment for individual counselling or coaching, please send Mr Hanebeck an email with a brief description of your request.
