L'acquisizione bilingue: l'ordine dei costituenti della frase e loro realizzazione morfologica in italiano e in tedesco. – Der bilinguale Spracherwerb: die Stellung der Satzglieder und ihre morphologische Realizierung im Italienischen und im Deutschen.

My present Phd research focuses the attention on the acquisition of word order in Italian – German bilingual individuals and the morphological realization of phrasal constituents, with particular focus on predicate, subject and object. The corpus comes from the Wuppertal research project “Die Architektur der frühkindlichen bilingualen Sprachfähigkeit. Italienisch - Deutsch und Französisch-Deutsch in Italien, Deutschland und Franchreich im Vergleich” (chef: Frau Prof. N. Müller) and it consists of 6 longitudinal studies on bilingual German-Italian children, personally analyzed from the age of 1;6 circa to the age of 3;6 years and a control group of two monolinguals for each language.

The first results obtained by the analysis have shown that there can be an interference between the two linguistic systems, but these interferences can act in both directions and are independent from linguistic dominance. Moreover, some peculiar characteristics of bilingual development are not due directly to the influence of the rules of the other language, but more plausibly to the presence of two languages in the mind of the individual, to the necessity of simultaneous processing of two languages: it means that some phenomena are strictly connected with and are an effect of bilinguality itself.

The next step of the research will be the analysis of word order related to its pragmatic functions, its informative status and to communicative situation:. The final purpose of my work is to discuss the interaction between syntax, morphology and pragmatics, in the acquisition of word order and sentence structure, in simultaneous bilingualism.
