Kurzbiographie

• Geboren 1986 in Iserlohn, NRW.
• Bachelorstudium der Kommunikationswissenschaften an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (Abschluss 2009). Masterstudium der Medien- und Kommunikationswissenschaften an der Universität Augsburg mit Auslandsaufenthalt an der Ewha University in Seoul, Südkorea (Abschluss 2013).
• Tätigkeit im Bereich der Film-Produktion und -Postproduktion sowie als Referentin in der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit.
• Seit 2014 Bachelorstudium der Psychologie (Zweitstudium) an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal.
• Von Oktober 2016 bis März 2017 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin (50%) am Lehrstuhl Sozialpsychologie der Universität Duisburg-Essen im MERCUR-Projekt „Psychologische Auswirkungen von computerseitigem linguistic alignment in Mensch-Computer-Interaktionen“. Von Februar 2017 bis Mai 2018 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin (65%) am Institut Positive Computing der Hochschule Ruhr West im NUKLEUS-Projekt zu den Auswirkungen von Technostress.
• Seit April 2019 Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft am Lehrstuhl für Sozialpsychologie der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal.
• Seit Mai 2019 Doktorandin am Institut für Psychologie der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal.

Titel und Abstract des Dissertationsprojekts

Smartphone-Induced Ostracism: Adversity and Pervasiveness of a Modern Communication Phenomenon

The act of deflecting from a conversation in order to attend to one’s phone has become a pervasive and irritating communication phenomenon, which – as recent research concludes – impairs conversation and relationship quality, leads to adverse short-term effects on mood, feeling of belonging, and self-esteem, and may also result in severe long-term impairments of individuals’ mental and physical wellbeing. It has been assumed that these consequences arise as smartphone use in social interactions is a form of smartphone-induces social rejection. Existing literature on the short- and long-term outcomes of smartphone-induced social rejection is extremely scarce and lacks a solid theoretical basis. Consequently, the aim of this project is to systematically investigate the short- and long-term effects and underlying processes of smartphone-induced social rejection on individual and social wellbeing.
