Kurzbiographie

The milestones of my academic career are summarized in chronological order below:

  1. 2005-2009 – studying towards a Bachelor’s Diploma at Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University, the Ukraine. My studies have been orientated towards highway and pavement engineering. The final project was devoted to investigating a reconstruction of a stretch of road with use of specialist software;
  2. 2011-2012 – studying towards a Master of Science degree at The University of Nottingham, the UK. The pivotal focus of research was made upon pavement engineering. The main aim of a finalist project was to examine a moisture susceptibility of diverse asphalt mixtures with use of state-of-the-art testing techniques and protocols.

Titel und Abstract des Dissertationsprojektes

Presently, I am doing my postgraduate studies in pursuit of a PhD degree at Pavement Research Centre. A core research subject is the following: Evaluation of road conditions impact on energy losses that take place at a contact patch

The chosen area of investigation is in line with contemporarily endeavours towards more sustainable, environmentally friendly and cost effective pavement structures and maintenance decisions. Intuitively, it can be perceived that bumpier roads will trigger more fuel usage compared to smoother ones. A vast number of studies have been dedicated towards deeper understanding of inherent influence of road on fuel consumption by contriving empirical, theoretical and semi-empirical models so as to reveal and quantify the source of the energy loss. Nonetheless, despite the fact that some of the attempts have conjured that there is a profound correlation between fuel use and road parameters, an unbiased upshot hasn’t been reached and a gap in knowledge of how the road’s condition affects fuel excessive usage still exists. Hence, the major aim ensues to providing an accurate enough quantification of a pavement-vehicle relationship by employing a computational approach/analysis as well as figuring out a trade off amongst grip, safety and fuel consumption factors.
