Kurzbiographie

I have graduated from the department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in Greece with an MSc in Physics. My research interests are in the field of Theoretical and Computational Physics and right now I am doing a joint doctorate between BUW and the Technical University of Athens. For the project Monte Carlo simulations are needed so a good background on algorithms is important. I have learned to use Fortran and C. I can type in LateX and I speak Greek, English and French and I have basic knowledge on German.

Analytical and Numerical Study of Non-Perturbative Gauge-Higgs Unifications
The purpose of this research project is to explain the various phenomena, which cannot be explained by the Standard Model. Up to now there are several classes of theories that extend the Standard Model. The particular one under study considers that the Higgs field originates from a certain component of a 5-dimensional pure SU(2) gauge theory, where the emphasis is placed on the quantum side of phenomena since the massiveness comes from a dimensional reduction in the low energy spectrum of the model. The non-perturbative nature originates from the dimensional reduction, which is a phase transition that induces the creation of a scalar particle from the extra-dimensional component of the original pure gauge theory due to the breaking of a global symmetry and, as a result, the final energy spectrum corresponds to an effective four dimensional theory. The reason for introducing this unification mechanism, is to fundamentally explain the Higgs mechanism while possibly resolving the hierarchy problem, by keeping the mass of the Higgs field finite thanks to the five-dimensional gauge invariance.
