Die Jahrestagung der Deutschen Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft (DBG), die aber nur alle zwei Jahre stattfindet, ist fast wie ein Klassentreffen – diesmal vom 14.-18.09.2025 im beschaulichen Tübingen.

Direkt am ersten Abend traf ich meine Professoren aus dem Masterstudium in Trier und an den darauffolgenden Tagen noch einen Professor und einen ehemaligen Kommilitonen aus dem Bachelorstudium in Jena sowie weitere bekannte Gesichter.

Am Dienstag, 16.09., in der ersten Session am frühen Morgen durfte ich die Daten meines erst kürzlich veröffentlichten Papers vorstellen und diskutieren. Der Vortrag trug den Titel „Effects of Different Controlled Redox Potentials on Microbial Community Composition and Growth in an Arable Soil” mit der Take-Home-Message, dass in geflutetem Boden Redoxpotentiale < 300 mV (reduzierende Bedingungen) zu einer Verschiebung der mikrobiellen Gemeinschaft und potentiell verzögertem mikrobiellen Wachstum führten.

Nach meinem Vortrag konnte ich mich noch mit einer der Koryphäen der Bodenbiologie austauschen und sie als Gutachterin für meine Doktorarbeit gewinnen.

Die Konferenz war für mich ein wichtiger Austauschplatz und ein weiterer Meilenstein im Promotionsprozess. Daher danke ich dem ZGS für die finanzielle Unterstützung und die Möglichkeit, auch während der Elternzeit nicht komplett aus dem wissenschaftlichen Diskurs verschwunden zu sein.

The annual conference of the German Soil Science Society (DBG), which only takes place every two years, is almost like a class reunion—this time from September 14 to 18, 2025, in tranquil Tübingen.

On the very first evening, I met my professors from my master's program in Trier, and on the following days, I met another professor and a former fellow student from my bachelor's program in Jena, as well as other familiar faces.

On Tuesday, September 16, in the first session early in the morning, I had the opportunity to present and discuss the data from my recently published paper. The presentation was titled “Effects of Different Controlled Redox Potentials on Microbial Community Composition and Growth in an Arable Soil” with the take-home message that in flooded soil, redox potentials < 300 mV (reducing conditions) led to a shift in the microbial community and potentially delayed microbial growth.

After my presentation, I had the opportunity to talk to one of the leading experts in soil biology and recruit her as a reviewer for my doctoral thesis.

The conference was an important forum for exchange and another milestone in my doctoral process. I would therefore like to thank the ZGS for its financial support and for giving me the opportunity to remain part of the scientific discourse even during my parental leave.
